My Travel Journal: Oahu...

My absolute favorite find on my trip to Oahu this week had to be this burned-out relic of a building. For some reason I’ve always loved finding the ignored, desolate pockets of beauty in places that are lush and active and alive.

This building was exceptional.

I have no idea what it was originally—it exists next to a convalescent home, so perhaps it was the original main building.

It seems to have been languishing here for at least a couple of decades, judging by the dates on the graffiti scrawled inside the crumbling walls…

I think my favorite part about ‘dead’ buildings is how nature once again gets to take over, creeping & crawling around pipes and walls. In a way, the building gets a second life.

It becomes beautiful in a new way.
