A Nesting Party
There have been a lot of changes in my family in the past few months…. A new home and a new baby on the way called for a different kind of celebration—enter the ‘Nesting Party.’ We wanted a way for all our friends & family to celebrate with us, so we decided to host a combined housewarming/baby shower as a way to include everyone, and we tied it all in with the theme of spring birds (and pregnant ladies!) nesting… The modern invitations were from Minted.com.
I decorated very simply with spring flowers tied with paper and twine, preferring to leave most things spare so friends & family could appreciate the details of the home. We are very far from having the house decorating done, so it’s nice to just leave things simple and open to everyone’s imagination. Plus, I’ve always loved the Emerson quote: “The ornament of a house is the friends who frequent it.”With family… My dress is from A Pea in the Pod.
For the food, I enlisted the help of chef extraordinaire Leslie Sarna. Inspired by the idea of a retro San Diego theme, she created a large taco bar with lots of different vegetables, meats, toppings and sauces. It was a huge hit. I decided recently that the only thing I don’t like about throwing parties is making the food, so thank goodness I have such talented (and willing) friends in my life!
The origins of the Mexican food theme started with our idea of incorporating my pregnancy cravings, sooooo… see below…Weird, right??
Needless to say, I am SO looking forward to celebrating Cinco de Mayo tonight with yet another icy blended virgin margarita!! This is the recipe I’m using (thanks, Google!)—but does anyone have one they like better?xoxo
